Healing Voices Story
This rug was inspired by a local women’s therapy group I co-led for victims of domestic violence. (Before I launched my business as an interior designer, I was a psychotherapist for many years, and still look for ways to put these skills to work as a volunteer in serving my community). The women in the group were so supportive and helpful to each other. I felt privileged to be there with them.

In my days as a practicing psychotherapist, I did a great deal of group therapy. I loved it. So challenging and exciting. So many opportunities for insight. I taught university students how to conduct group therapy sessions, presented on the topic at national conferences, helped design large group therapy day programs – and even experienced it myself from the client perspective.

Group work was a large part of my life and career as a therapist, and still informs how I think today – helping me to understand what’s happening within and around me.

The group – whether a group meeting for therapeutic reasons, a group of friends, a team at work, even a band of musicians… is powerful. For support, to effect change, to give a sense of belonging, to drive productivity, innovation, improvisation…Group is powerful.

Group – a group of women helping each other in unison. That’s what inspired this rug.
